Houghton Mifflin Parent Letter

Adding and subtracting numbers is a skill that every child must master in order to be successful in life. We are constantly expected to add and subtract numbers in our daily life, whether we are paying bills or counting change. In this unit, students will use their knowledge of place value to add and subtract larger numbers. They will also estimate sums and differences in order to determine if an answer is reasonable. It is extremely important that students have mastered their basic addition and subtraction facts in order to solve harder problems.
